Exploring Lino Printing
10, 17, 24 September
IN THIS 3-DAY CLASS YOU'LL DIVE INTO THE WORLD OF LINO PRINTING - EXPLORING ITS CREATIVE POSSIBILITIES AND TECHNIQUES
This workshop offers a hands-on introduction to printmaking, with a focus on relief printing using linoleum. You'll learn practical lino printing techniques and explore various approaches to carving, inking, and printing.
By the end of the workshop, you'll have the skills to create and print your own designs at home—no need for expensive studio equipment. Over the course of three sessions, you’ll design and carve your own lino block, and take home a series of original prints made entirely by you.
I’ll guide you step by step—from your initial sketch to the finished print—offering tips, technical advice, and insights from my own experience along the way.
The workshop is spread out across three sessions, with a week between each one. This gives you time to reflect, absorb what you've learned, and return with fresh eyes to continue developing your work.
Workshop Schedule:
Day 1 – Introduction to lino printing + getting started with your design
Day 2 – Deep dive into carving techniques
Day 3 – Final touches and experimenting with printing
Om kursledaren:
I’m Elsie Wong — a graphic designer, illustrator, and lino printmaker based in Gothenburg, Sweden. I’m the hands, heart, and mind behind Somewhere in Between, a multidisciplinary design and art studio I founded in 2021.
Having lived in Hong Kong, London, Germany, and Sweden, I see the world through a multicultural lens. My work is shaped by the places I’ve called home, drawing constant inspiration from the people, environments, and cultural contrasts around me.
With a background in graphic design and visual communication, my style leans toward minimalism, with a strong focus on monochrome patterns and intricate detail. I work primarily with linocut, pen and ink, and watercolor. Currently, my main focus is linocut—an expressive medium that sits somewhere in between graphic design and illustration, blending my two creative passions.
I find inspiration in nature, urban landscapes, and the in-between states of emotion and experience. My practice continues to evolve as I create new prints and patterns influenced by the ever-changing rhythms of life.
My work has been exhibited in London, Munich, Maastricht, Gothenburg, and Hong Kong. I also host printmaking workshops and regularly participate in design and craft markets across Sweden.
